Founded in 2003, Gotham Girls Roller Derby (GGRD) is the first flat track roller derby league in the metropolitan New York area and a founding member league of the sport's governing body, the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). Now celebrating fifteen seasons, GGRD is entirely volunteer-run, skater-owned and operated, and a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Their premiere charter team, the GGRD All-Stars, have won 5 WFTDA International Championships over the years. Today, the league is composed of four New York City-based teams, three travel teams, a developmental travel team, and a juniors program for young athletes.
Gotham is New York City’s only roller derby league for cisgender, transgender and intersex women, and gender non-conforming participants. The league is comprised of strong, diverse, and independent skaters from the world's biggest, baddest city.
GGRD's Basic Training is dedicated to training skaters and providing opportunities to play roller derby without the commitment or skill required for national competition. Basic Training is the place for anyone interested in learning the sport of roller derby, trying out for a derby league, interested in being an official or just working on your skating and roller derby skills for overall fitness and fun. All skill levels are welcome! Their mission is to provide a fun, safe and competitive environment for all who participate.
