Fat Girls Hiking

Hiking
All over the U.S. and Canada
---

Fat Girls Hiking is about fat activism and body liberation. They want to take the shame and stigma out of the word FAT and empower it. Their motto Trails Not Scales focuses on self care in the outdoors. They promote weight-neutrality and Health At Every Size (HAES). FGH wants to create a space where fat and marginalized folks can come together to create safer spaces in the outdoors, where people can access outdoor spaces in a way that meets their needs. FGH believes in representation for fat folks, folks of all ages, races, ethnicities, religions, classes, abilities, genders, and sexual identities. NO diet talk. NO weight loss talk. NO body shaming. NO bigotry of any kind is allowed in their online or real-life spaces.

Summer Michaud-Skog, founder of Fat Girls Hiking, leads from the back on group hikes and strongly believes that the slowest person should receive the most support. She empowers her community to listen to the needs of their body while hiking and makes stops often for rest, water, and snacks. Self-care in the outdoors is one of Summer's favorite tools in healing.
